Part F Ventilation Testing & Commissioning
Crowther Solutions provides Part F ventilation testing and commissioning for new residential dwellings only, including intermittent extract fans, continuous mechanical extract ventilation (MEV/dMEV) and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR).
Mechanical ventilation systems in new dwellings require commissioning, and measured airflow rates are provided as part of the information required for Building Control. Where a ventilation design is available, the installed system is tested and commissioned against the specified airflow rates. Where appropriate design information is not available, the measured performance can be checked against the applicable Approved Document F requirements.
Intermittent Extract Fan Testing
Extract airflow rates are measured at kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms and other relevant locations and compared against the required design or Approved Document F rates. Test results are recorded for Building Control.
MEV & dMEV Commissioning
Continuous mechanical extract systems are tested and commissioned to establish the required continuous and boost airflow rates. Where applicable, individual terminals are balanced to achieve the required performance throughout the dwelling.
MVHR Commissioning
MVHR systems are commissioned against the ventilation design, with extract and supply terminals measured and balanced to achieve the required airflow rates. System controls are also checked as part of the commissioning process.
Before the ventilation testing visit, please ensure:
- Safe access is available to all extractor fans, MEV, dMEV and MVHR terminals and units.
- Fans and terminals are accessible from floor level. Please advise us in advance where access above approximately 2.4m will be required.
- There is sufficient clear space around each terminal for the airflow measurement equipment.
- All fans and ventilation systems are operational and the ductwork is fully connected.
- Ductwork is free from obvious restrictions or blockages.
- Uninterrupted access is available to all dwellings being tested.
- Someone familiar with the ventilation system and its controls is available where required.
- Where a system is controlled through a BMS or other specialist control system, somebody able to access and adjust those settings is available on site.
Ventilation Design Support
Where a ventilation design has already been prepared, we can review the information provided and use the specified airflow rates when commissioning the installed system.
We can also provide practical guidance on the ventilation requirements for common residential systems including intermittent extract ventilation, MEV/dMEV and MVHR. Any final system design and specification remains the responsibility of the appointed designer or system supplier.
Trickle Ventilation Calculations
Approved Document F includes requirements for background ventilation to help provide adequate fresh air within the dwelling. Crowther Solutions can calculate the required equivalent area of background ventilators and mark up drawings with the ventilation requirements for each room.
These calculations can be provided as a standalone service or alongside MEV, dMEV or MVHR testing and commissioning where applicable.
